[Куплет 1] You left your blue mug by the window A little crescent where the steam had been I washed the dishes, kept the quiet And watched the afternoon grow thin [Предприпев] There are some things a house remembers Long after footsteps fade [Припев] I still set aside a place for you Though i know you won't come through the door Some goodbyes don't break like thunder They settle softly on the floor And i carry what was beautiful Without asking it for more [Куплет 2] The garden gate needs one more hinge now The rosemary has climbed the wall I found your note inside the cookbook Three words written small beneath it all [Предприпев] I read them in the fading daylight Then tucked them back away [Припев] I still set aside a place for you Though i know you won't come through the door Some goodbyes don't break like thunder They settle softly on the floor And i carry what was beautiful Without asking it for more [Бридж] If i pass your old street in october I won't turn the car around I'll let the leaves move where they want to I'll let the silence make its sound [Final chorus] I still set aside a place for you Not from hope, but from before Some goodbyes become a kindness When we stop fighting what they're for And i carry what was beautiful Like a coat beside the door [Аутро] The blue mug waits by the window Morning finds it there once more
