Under the Pear Tree

[Куплет 1] You left the gate beside the pear tree Half-open in the afternoon Dust on your boots, a jar of honey Cooling in the kitchen room I found your note beneath the blue cup Three small words and a crooked sun Saying meet me where the creek turns silver When the working day is done [Припев] Come sit with me by the old fence rail Watch the tall grass bend and rise Let the quiet settle on our shoulders Like a blanket from the sky You don't have to carry every answer You don't have to hurry home Come sit with me by the old fence rail You are not alone [Куплет 2] The garden rows are dark with water Robins tug at lengths of twine Your red scarf hangs beside the doorway Keeping company with mine Somewhere past the lower pasture A hand pump gives a patient cry And you laugh when the dog steals your glove Then pretend you don't know why [Припев] Come sit with me by the old fence rail Watch the tall grass bend and rise Let the quiet settle on our shoulders Like a blanket from the sky You don't have to carry every answer You don't have to hurry home Come sit with me by the old fence rail You are not alone [Бридж] If the road feels long tomorrow If the rain comes through the pane I'll leave a lantern by the doorway And your boots beside the frame [Припев] Come sit with me by the old fence rail Watch the tall grass bend and rise Let the quiet settle on our shoulders Like a blanket from the sky You don't have to carry every answer You don't have to hurry home Come sit with me by the old fence rail You are not alone [Аутро] The gate stays open by the pear tree The kettle hums, the evening's grown Come sit with me by the old fence rail You are not alone
