Lyrics
[Verse 1] Your cup left a ring on the table By the crack in the old wood floor I still reach for the sound of your footsteps When the screen door sighs once more [Verse 2] That blue scarf hangs by the window Like a small flag from another time And the rain taps out our old dates On the tin roof in a quiet rhyme [Pre-Chorus] I was doing fine in the daylight Then the dusk came in your shape Every little thing feels borrowed Every little room still waits [Chorus] Porchlight rain, come back again Hold this heart the way you did then Porchlight rain, stay on my skin Till i can breathe that name again [Verse 3] I found your note in the cookbook Folded soft between page nineteen It said, “save some room for tomorrow” I smiled like i knew what it means [Pre-Chorus] Now the house keeps your echo In the drawers, in the door, in the glass And i hear you in the hallway Like a song that just won’t pass [Chorus] Porchlight rain, come back again Hold this heart the way you did then Porchlight rain, stay on my skin Till i can breathe that name again [Bridge] If you ever miss this side of the county Where the geese cut lines through the gray Leave a mark on the mud by the mailbox Let me know you passed this way [Chorus] Porchlight rain, come back again Hold this heart the way you did then Porchlight rain, stay on my skin Till i can breathe that name again [Outro] And the porch keeps its patient glow While the rain falls low and slow I’ll keep one chair for your shadow Just in case you circle home
